Palasari Church: Where East and West Architecture met

If you drive from Denpasar towards Gilimanuk Harbour, approximately 20 kilometers (Honestly, I have measure it with my odometer J) from the capital of Jembrana Regency, Negara, you will find a t-junction and you will find a direction sign “palasari”. Before this sign you will also see the sign for Taman Wana Villas. The sign is quite large and quite easy to see, just don’t hesitate to make a right turn. J). The distance from the t-junction to the church is approximately 5 km. Just follow the road until you find an intersection with a little monument in the middle. Make a right turn and again just follow the road and enjoy the scene.
Of course you should watch for the traffic as it could be a bit busy.

I have been to this place many times as my wife came from this area (

On first t-junction on your right you should make a right turn. In about two minutes you will see a church with a beautiful architecture.

The church was designed by a Dutch priest, Brother Ign. AMD Vrieze, SVD, and was built in 1956. The ceremony for the church was conducted on December 13, 1958. Restoration starts in August 1992, and completed in 1994.

Before entering the church, you will pass a football field, which is located the right side (west) of this church. Through the road available in front of the church, the visitor will be able to go inside the church complex through two Bali-style gates; each side of the gate has six stairs.

With spacious yard and beautiful landscaping arrangement, visitors will be greeted by another gate with consist of 20 stairs. Some types of trees like pine, palm, frangipani, flamboyant, and various other ornamental plants are arranged beautifully. Surely, you will not regret it.
